Dedicated in Memory of
2LT John E. Thompson
2LT Thompson was a native of Washburn, Maine. He was the pilot of an F-80C Shooting Star as part of the 8th Fighter Bomber Squadron during the Korean War.
On April 7, 1951 on a mission over North Korea his plane was hit by ground fire and his engine flamed out. He was directed to bail out, and he ejected. His parachute did not open and only his flight helmet was recovered.
2LT Thompson was declared MIA and later declared KIA.
Thompson Memorial Field will forever honor the bravery, dedication, and sacrifice of 2LT John E. Thompson.
